Production Diary 9

This is the final production diary entry as we have finished editing the film and it is ready to watch.

We have added the music for the background, we included sound effects, we got some extra footage and removed some unnecessary footage.

The narrations had to be recorded twice in order to flow with the film and to figure out what words would work better

Production Diary - 8

I plan to add the narrations in with the footage this time around and I think we might be able to finish the editing if we're quick.

From what we have now its half done.

We also still need to find background music for it

We also need to add the  titles and credits, and I may try to get one more scene in.

I have probably underestimated some times, but also don’t know what should go next, so feel free to give me some ideas
The shots of putting the costume on could be rearranged if needed

Feel free to add shots if you think of something

Script - First Draft

This is the script that Aidan wrote

Cut to shot of table, letters piled up, addressed to both Brian Hawk’s real name and superhero name, some say Private or Final Notice clearly bank statements, newspaper on table has headline relating to Brian Hawk fighting crime, could have credits on it, messily folded & thrown on table but clearly visible & legible, dramatic drumbeat in groups can be heard faintly in background.

(Alternatively, this sequence could be done in a slow crabbing shot and/or without cat, or cat could push open final cupboard if willing, credits could appear inside cupboards)

Cut to MS/MLS of Brian sitting at table eating cereal, shirt half buttoned up wrong, milk bottle on one side & cereal box on other & opened, credits on/along cereal box and milk, hear ringtone of phone, takes phone out of pocket & answers, hear person on other end saying hero is needed & describes crime/situation, slow zoom in on hero to close up, hero's face slowly becomes more determined, other person hangs up, Brian starts to lower phone, then suddenly jumps as drumbeats alarm tone returns.

Get out of here!” Brian unfazed, on start of drumbeats criminal raises baseball bat & swings at Brian, Brian catches on last drumbeat & cuts to black, punches & screams heard, title fades in.

Notes

This may me more than 2 mins, so may have to be cut down
All titles are just suggestions and not necessary, but could be good places to put them
Feel free to cut out any parts you don’t like or add in what you want
Most individual shots are only intended to be 1-2 seconds; unless obviously longer, exceptions would be: table with letters and desk (viewers need longer to digest info) & any shot where credits may be hard to read in this time
Cats may be removed as you please

For context, drumbeats were intended to be in groups like in Terminator 2 theme, but with longer gaps between & without rest of song (drumbeats every other bar rather than every bar & different rhythm, would create in GarageBand, will have example tomorrow) Terminator 2 Theme

Casting

For casting choices I thought of either Me (Joshua) or my friend Tom who was in a previous preliminary task as the villain.
Despite Tom being a good a decent actor I think I'll take up the role because it would be easier to keep the filming crew as small as possible also it seems easier to dirt a film if the director is in the film.
We had an idea to have a shot of the villain which could be played by Patryk, another friend from another ask 9 to 5. This is optional thug so it might not be necessary.

Production Diary 7

For today I am going to test the extra footage I got for the movie.

Some of the shots I captured work but there isn't enough space in the film o keep them all, I will have to decide what works best where tomorrow.

I have tried to find some transitions that work well in these kinds of scenes but I may have to create one in Motion.

I added most of the voice overs but I may have to re-record them.

Production Diary 6

I have recorded the Narrations and the News Anchors voice over and have filmed some additional footage to replace some shots in the film, they are ready to be put in.

Tuesday, 1 March 2016

Production Diary 5

I have begun to add the remaining scenes and I'm trimming them down as I go along.
I have also begun to experiment with some of the transitions.

Storyboarding 2

I have finished the storyboards for the second shooting of our film and I think that the speed and timing of this newer version is much better, it also included some of the points that I was told to add so I'm feeling better about it.

Production Diary 4

At this point I am editing the footage we already have and am going to add the additional footage later.

I have already added the establishing shot, the introduction of the main character and the scene where he watches the news. I watched it through and the pacing so fa is pretty good, I still haven't recorded the voices but I'll be doing that later today.

Production Diary 2

After looking through most of the footage we decided that it wasn't giving the message that we intended so we are going to shoot the majority of the film again the following weekend.

Production Diary 3

On the 28th of February Aidan and I arranged a meet up and we shot the entire film once again, the filming of the film went very well and there were no practical problems. We had to use my digital camera again but that wasn't a problem as Aidan was able to figure it out relatively quickly.

The movie has come out very well and we have begun adding in some fast cuts and fade to/from black transitions.

We showed it to our teacher and we were told to add a couple scenes that show the main characters pathetic nature.

Storyboarding

Feb 20th - The storyboards for the film have been completed and we are ready to start filming

Feb 26th - The story for our movie wasn't good enough and we weren't fast enough in introducing the the main character and the tropes that would come with this good-for-nothing hero. So we've had to redo the storyboards.

Production Diary 1

I have filmed most of the film apart from the two establishing shots at the beginning and end.

while editing the movie I noticed the lighting was quite dark which is what we were going for. However I may go back through the scenes and adjust the contrast and exposures little.

I also haven't yet recorded he voice over for the main character/narrater yet.

The movie has been filmed almost exactly like I imagined however the runtime is far too long, as instead of 120 seconds the uncut footage has shot up to 5 minutes so I'll need to do some major trimming in almost every scene. I'll see if i can speed any scenes up an drake it look natural.

Also the lack of a actual DSLR camera affected the recordings since I had to use my cam-corder to film the entire thing.

Lighting

For the kind of movie we've planned we think a dark lighting in the beginning would be a good idea.

Deadpool had a very dark start and One Punch Man also had a dark start, they all got brighter as the movie went on.

Kick Ass had quite a bright opening with some black comedy.
